Jessica Finney, MA, LMFT
(she/her/hers)

I am a relational therapist who supports people in their desires to live their best lives, tapping into inner strengths and learning strategies for personal, couple, and/or family relationship development. Life is complex, and I bring a realistic, compassionate, and non-judgemental presence to witness and support you as you explore whatever brings you to meeting with me and whatever transformations you wish to make.

I am a Certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist and am an IFS-Institute approved consultant for therapists or practitioners working towards certification after a level 1 training.

Therapy, Consultation, and Coaching Services & Pricing

With over 17 years working in theater and education, I bring a creative, holistic approach to my work as a therapist. I acknowledge and welcome all of the different parts within each of us and work with clients to integrate those parts into the healthy, whole person each of us deserves to be.

I am a socially conscious LGBTQ+ ally, and I do my best to be aware of my privilege and how it impacts the world around me while working to dismantle oppressive systems. I have worked with clients as young as 2 and as wise as 72. I would be honored to be a part of your journey.

  • My practice is currently FULL and I am not taking new therapy clients at this time. If you’re looking for IFS consultation, I do have limited space for that. You may reach out via the contact button or phone listed below.

If you would like to use insurance…

  • If you would like to bill your insurance (either in or out of network), you can book an appointment with me at the Change Inc Community Clinic in Northeast Minneapolis and inquire with them about particular insurance plans. That is the only location where I work with insurance. I have some in person appointments available there as well as telehealth. Fill out a request for services here, noting that you’d like to work with me specifically and would like to use your insurance.

Some of the
ways I work…

Internal Family Systems

Have you ever felt like there’s a part of you that is sabotaging your best self in some way? Or a part of you that feels anxious, angry, or sad and somehow seems to be leading your life without your permission? You know that the part isn’t all of you, but it seems to be adding to the stress in your life?

You are not alone. Internal Family Systems is a non-pathologizing approach that blends mindfulness, systems thinking, and the theory of multiplicity of mind. This process allows you time to get to know the parts of yourself, build your relationship with those parts, and strengthen your foundational energy so that your true Self can lead the life you most want.

At its core, Internal Family Systems work is about relearning to trust in your Self and strengthening your capacity to deal with whatever comes your way in your inner or outer life. Available for individuals, couples, and families. Workshops offered periodically.

Expressive Arts

Does traditional talk therapy turn you off? Perhaps you’re a kinesthetic learner and prefer to be actively doing something as you address what brings you to therapy? Maybe you’d like to try a different approach to learning about yourself and your relationships?

You are not alone. The creative process allows for a unique therapeutic experience. Expressive Arts therapy can incorporate a variety of art modalities, including drama, visual arts, music, movement, and creative writing to foster an exploration of self, thoughts, emotions, and relationships. There is no prerequisite artistic capability; only a willingness to explore is needed!

At its core, Expressive Arts therapy is about gaining insight into your experiences, building your coping skills, and strengthening your capacity to create the life you desire. Available for individuals, couples, and families. Workshops offered periodically.

Testimonials

For the first time in a very long time, I feel able to handle whatever life throws at me.
Jessica helped us (really saved us) get through the preschool phase. Our daughter’s behavior had become disruptive to daily life. Jessica helped us to understand so much about our daughter and really ourselves. She gave us the language, skills, and tools to parent our daughter in ways that bridged the emotional gap and the communication gap that can happen between an adult and a child.
Jess has been there for me to work through my successes and failures; helping me see that both are part of life. She helped me realize I have what I need to be successful at life.
Jessica listens with an open mind and an open heart. She gives you space to feel what you’re feeling and asks insightful questions. She is genuine, and cares about her clients’ well being. She will also keep you accountable, and will provide feedback that helps you dig deep, when you’re ready. She will meet you where you’re at, and help take you where you want to go.
